The shelving units are boltless, which means they’re quick and easy to assemble at home, and the modular design allows you to combine the units in whatever way you wish and simply slot them together. You can even split the rectangular units into two smaller units and position them side-by-side to create an instant workbench.

There are two variations of the rectangular shelving unit available, one with a capacity of 175kg per shelf and the other with a capacity of 265kg per shelf, so you don’t have to worry about overloading them. Plus their affordable prices mean you can construct the ideal storage solution without breaking the bank.

Sealey

Another option is a Sealey garage storage set, which have been designed with ease-of-use and practicality in mind. While the sets are larger than the Halfords-branded range, they’re still modular in design and can be combined with one another.

Depending on what design you choose, they can include features such as floor-to-ceiling cabinets, drawer units, wall cabinets, floor cupboards, worktops and handy back panels with built-in holes for your tools.

They’re tough and durable, with a hammered metal finish, and some models offer a choice of wooden or stainless steel worktops. The drawer handles and pulls are aluminium, while the drawers have ball bearing drawer slides and the wall cabinet doors have gas struts for easy opening.

What should you do before buying modular storage?

Measure your space

It’s an obvious one, but this is probably the most important step before you commit to buying modular storage units or a modular storage unit set.

Measuring the space where you want the storage to go – including the height from floor to ceiling – will help to ensure that you don’t end up in a situation where the storage you’ve chosen is too big.

Make sure you take into account any doors that may open or drawers that may pull out, as well as the space you’ll need to move around if you’re thinking of investing in an option with a workbench or worktop.

Choose the right storage type for you

Work out your storage configuration

This goes hand-in-hand with the above point, but it’s worth mentioning on its own because one of the major benefits of modular storage is the ability to create a bespoke space.

If you want two shelving units side by side for your tools, then you can have it. If you’d prefer a workspace with storage above and below, then you can create it. Just make sure your measurements are correct and you can use the space to your advantage.
