Learn more about your scooter in the Pure electric Scooter Manual.

    Your Scooter's Range

All electric scooters indicate a maximum range that they can cover on a single battery charge. That's the furthest range in ideal conditions, but range can be impacted by several factors:

  • The combined weight of the rider and any luggage
  • The riding mode selected
  • The route (e.g., the type of terrain or any inclines)
  • Temperature and climate (e.g., cold weather will decrease the performance of the battery)
  • Tyre pressure
  • Wind speed and direction
  •

    Battery Safety

Choosing an e-scooter can be a daunting prospect, and the safety around electric scooter batteries is often at the forefront of people’s minds. At Halfords, we have a rigorous process to ensure these batteries are as safe as possible.

We inspect production facilities to ensure they meet the necessary safety standards; we also ask our manufacturers to run third party tests to guarantee an impartial opinion.

There are several UK and European laws regarding the standards that electric scooters must meet. Our batteries comply with International Standard EN62133, which specifies the requirements for the safe operation of lithium batteries, and UN38.3, which certifies the safety of our batteries during transportation.

Buying from a reputable retailer like Halfords gives you peace of mind that your products meet the relevant safety standards.

Please note that this scooter is not to be used on public highways, only on private property with the owner's consent.

Pure Electric scooters bought from Halfords include a 12-month warranty, further warranty details are included in the user manual. If you experience any problems whilst your scooter is under warranty, make a claim by contacting Pure Electric on help@pureelectric.com.

Proof of purchase for reference is required when making enquires on this warranty.

    Frequently asked questions

A manufacturer will test and provide an eScooter with a rating based on its waterproofness, so it is important to check the specification of your scooter as these will vary. Each of these IP ratings will be between 0 and 9. The higher the number, the more waterproof it is. A level of 5 or 6 should provide protection from puddles, splashes and light rain. It is also important to be aware of your warranty, as many manufacturers will advise riders not to use their scooter in the rain, which could void your warranty if you go against recommendations.

Your average e-scooter is typically capable of speeds around 25km/h or 15.5mph. Most countries limit e-scooters to a maximum speed of 25km/h or 15.5mph. In the UK rental scooters have this same speed limit, although operators can choose to set a lower limit. Halfords only sells electric scooters with a maximum speed of up to 25km/h or 15.5mph. Always check your manufacturers terms and conditions, as well as the current laws, when buying.

Yes, electric scooters can travel uphill, but there are some things you need to know before hitting the hills. When travelling uphill, the motor will need to work harder, which will drain the battery more quickly. You’ll also find travelling uphill is slower, too. If you are planning on taking your e-scooter uphill, then invest in one with a powerful motor for the best performance, for example Carrera scooters are built with excellent hill climbing ability. Be sure to keep it charged up!

Electric scooters are designed to be used with the battery-powered electric motor. If you push your electric scooter, you could damage the motor, so we’d recommend that you fold it up and walk to your destination if you need to. Every scooter is equipped with a battery level indicator so you can plan ahead to charge if you’re running low.

The total distance you can travel on an e-scooter is measured in its range. Basic scooters will provide up to 10 miles of propelling power. But more advanced (and expensive) models from brands such as Xiaomi and Carrera, can travel much further. Often scooters will advertise their maximum range but this should only be used as a comparison, as it describes the maximum possible the scooter can travel in it’s slowest mode in ideal conditions. Many factors can influence the range you will achieve on a full charge including rider weight, incline/hills, ambient temperature, wind resistance. We therefore include a typical range which will provides a more realistic estimate based on an average weight rider travelling in typical conditions. Please note that maximum ranges stated are tested in optimal conditions.

Electric scooters are fitted with small electric motors that are powered by a rechargeable battery. First you need to turn your eScooter on and if your scooter has a display, select from the ride modes available. Depending on your eScooter, you may be required to kick off, with certain scooters needing you to reach a speed of 3mph before the motor will engage. You may also need to assist the eScooter by kicking when moving up steeper hills or across rough terrain.

Yes, electric scooters are legal to own in the UK. However, there are lots of restrictions surrounding where they can be used. It's currently illegal to ride a privately owned e-scooter on a public road, pavement, cycle lane or bridleway. Privately owned e-scooters can only be ridden on private land with the permission on the landowner. The UK government are running trials of rental operations through 2020-2022, in selected major cities. These pilot programs could potentially pave the way to a version of the UK in which e-scooters are generally legal for use on roads and cycle lanes, carefully regulated to promote safety, and socially accepted as a sustainable means of transport. Private electric scooters are now set to be legalised for use on public roads across the UK, under the upcoming Transport Bill introduced at the Queen's speech on 10th May. This means that over the course of the year ahead, UK government will work through the details of the regulations that will enable the legislation of e-scooters.
