Also consider how you want it to open and what materials you want the box to be made from, as more cost-effective boxes are made from thinner plastics that may vibrate in the wind.

First, you need to ensure that you’ve got a pair of roof bars installed as you need something to attach your roof box to. If your car didn’t come with roof bars as standard, then you can find a suitable (and compatible) set by entering your vehicle registration number in our online checker.
Fitting a roof box to those roof bars is a fairly simply process and the instructions that come in the box should walk you through it step-by-step. Keep in mind the weight capacity of your roof bars, the roof box itself and your car roof.
If you need a helping hand with the fitting process, then head to your local Halfords store or you can book in for a fitting online when you purchase your roof bars and/or roof box.
When it comes to packing your roof box, here are a few tips to bear in mind:
• Be aware of the weight limits for both the roof box itself and for the roof of your car to make sure you don’t overload it.
• Pack lighter items in your roof box and heavier items in your car, as your car’s weight limit is always going to be greater than the roof box’s.
• Spread the weight evenly in your roof box to help create a smooth ride.
• Considering putting your suitcases in your roof box.
• Considering putting awkwardly-shaped items in your roof box.
• Make sure your roof box is properly secured to the roof of your car.
• Secure your locking system so that your roof box doesn’t open by accident.
• Take advantage of straps, hooks and holders to help secure your items.

All of our roof bars and boxes have been tested up to 80mph or 130kmh. This means that it's safe to drive to the national speed limit with these attached, but care must be taken in high winds.
A replacement for your roof box/bag key can be found here. There’ll be a code on the lock of your roof box/bag and you just need to find the key with the matching code online. Roof boxes aren’t designed to be opened without keys.
