Halfords Grey Primer Touch up Brush

The Halfords Grey Primer Touch up Brush is a high-quality primer that can be used for a variety of jobs, including automotive paintwork repairs.

Using the primer
Shake the primer for 3 minutes, making sure you can hear the agitator ball inside, then apply a first thin “dust” coat to give best possible adhesion. Holding the can around 25-30cm from the panel, hold down the nozzle and move the can in a smooth side-to-side motion, working your way from the top to bottom of the target area.

Allowing time in-between coats, slowly build up the layers of primer until a uniform thickness and coverage is achieved (this should be 2-3 coats).

Please note: When painting onto plastic, a plastic adhesion promoting primer must be used before priming.

Preparing for colour paint
Once the primer is fully cured, sand it smooth using dry P500 or P600 grade sandpaper, followed by a finer P800 grit.

Where repairing part of a panel, first remove the masking tape around the immediate repair. Flatten both the primer and the raised edge by sanding over them into the existing surface for a seamless repair.

Once the area is fully prepared, take a tack cloth (a special tacky resin cloth to pick up loose lint) and remove any dust and contaminants on the panel. Re-apply your masking tape, this time leaving about an extra 30cm unmasked from the primer edge so that the paint colour can be properly blended from old to new.
