Fitting Instructions
Safety first! Always wear protective gloves when working with broken glass
Never remove glass unnecessarily - the original mirror glass and backing plate should be carefully removed without removing any glass.
Ensure the vehicle is parked in a safe place and you have plenty of access around the door mirror that you are working on
Carefully remove the new mirror glass from the packaging and check that the shape is correct for the vehicle
Very carefully push the top of the mirror glass into the door mirror housing, this will push the bottom of the glass up to reveal a gap underneath
Insert the flat head screw driver between the mirror housing and bottom of the mirror glass, push the screwdriver handle downwards, this should unclip the backing plate
Once the backing plate is unclipped, gently but firmly, pull the backing plate away from the mirror housing the mirror should come out easily
If the mirror you are removing is heated, at this point you need to disconnect the heating connections, if the mirror has been on the vehicle for some time the connectors could be difficult to remove, using a pair of pliers will make this a little easier
Once removed place the damaged mirror in a safe place until you have finished fitting the new backing plate
To begin fitting your new backing plate mirror fit any metal clips that came with your mirror to the back of it, if the mirror is heated connect up the heating connectors in the door mirror housing
Now you need to line up the bottom of the new backing plate with the base in the door mirror housing; when removing we tilted the base upwards and into the top of the housing, you may need to straighten this before you start fitting
Once lined up push firmly in the centre of the mirror putting pressure on the area that the mirror clips into in the housing, you should hear an audible click when the mirror is fitted
Once the fitting is complete make sure to clean your mirror and reposition your door mirror before driving your vehicle
To clean your Summit Commercial Backing Plate Mirror Glass TCG7LB use a glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Alternatively, you can use glass cleaner wipes. We would advise against using abrasive cleaning solutions, car shampoo, household cleaners or car polish.
Your car may fail an MOT if you have a damaged or missing door mirror glass, always ensure that you check your mirror glasses prior to your MOT.
