Halfords Bike Xchange: Second Hand Bike Grading

If you’re looking to buy a pre-pedalled through the Halfords Bike Xchange scheme, then it’s important to understand what the different grading levels mean and how the condition of the bike influences the level of discount we can offer.

Grading levels

The grading rating list and the criteria for each grade are shown below. These ratings aren’t definitive, so we’d always recommend that you inspect your bike when you collect it to make sure that you’re happy with the condition before you complete your purchase.

Grade A
  • Bike has little to no cosmetic and/or mechanical wear from light use
  • Bike has the majority of its original parts and may have had some of its minor parts replaced

Up to 30% off the recommended retail price RRP* (Adult Bikes)

Up to 23% off the recommended retail price RRP* (Kids Bikes)
Grade B
  • Bike may have slight cosmetic and/or mechanical wear, and may show signs of light use
  • Bike has the majority of its original parts and may have had some of its minor parts replaced

Up to 40% off the RRP* (Adult Bikes)

Up to 29% off the RRP* (Kids Bikes)
Grade C
  • Bike may have some cosmetic and/or mechanical wear from use
  • Bike may have had some of its original parts replaced

Up to 50% off the RRP* (Adult Bikes)

Up to 40% off the RRP* (Kids Bikes)

Safety checks and guarantee

All of our second-hand bikes are safety checked by one of our trained experts before being restored and repaired to ensure they’re safe to ride.

They also come with a 12-month guarantee (from the date of purchase) and we’ll repair any manufacturing defects for free within that period. The only areas not covered by the guarantee are general wear and tear, and where components fail due to misuse, a lack of servicing and/or a lack of care.

Returns policy

If you change your mind about your second-hand bike purchase, you have the right to return that bike to the store from which you bought it within 14 days for a full refund. Proof of purchase is required.
