Our free brake check covers a visual inspection of all components in your car brake system. Our ATA-trained technicians look at brake pads, shoes, callipers, hoses, discs, and handbrake linkages.

If brake repairs are required, we'll let you know why, and we'll advise you of costs upfront.


Brakes4Life is a lifetime brake offer exclusive to Halfords Autocentres. It's quite simple - you pay for the first set of replacement brake pads, then the rest are free, forever. This goes for any car you buy in the future too.

If you need brake pads fitted for a new car, simply bring the car in to register for the lifetime replacement. Or you can transfer your lifetime brake replacements to the new owner when you sell your car.


We ask that you get any brake repairs carried out or parts replaced when necessary, and we recommend that you keep your car in safe, roadworthy condition. We also ask that you inform us when you change your car.

You don't need to have an annual check or service, although we recommend that you do.

The cost to change brake pads and discs will vary depending on your car. Remember the brake check is always free, and we'll let you know how much a brake service will cost upfront. There's no obligation to have brake discs or pads fitted.

Brake fitting is carried out by expert, ATA-trained technicians, and we only use top quality parts that match the manufacturer's original specification. Unlike some dealers, we never use low-quality cheap brake pads that quickly need replacing again!


You should allow an hour for our brake check. If we need to fit new brake pads or carry out repairs, we will normally be able to do the work on the same day.


If you're unsure about the condition of your brake pads or don’t have the tools to check them, it's always a good idea to take your car to a mechanic for an inspection.

It is advised that Brake Fluids should be changed every 2-3years/30,000 miles subject to vehicle manufacturer guidelines. Our helpful experts will put your mind at ease by providing a report on your current levels and advise on any next steps.


Regular brake disc checks are vital for vehicle safety, so it's recommended to inspect the discs whenever you change the brake pads or at least every 10,000 miles.
