The new Boardman MTR 8.6 Mountain Bike is built on an updated, 29er MTR platform, a slacker head angle, longer reach and steeper seat angle all add up to a bike which feels super composed and reassuring as you push on down the trail. The 8.6 features a Suntour Air fork up front and a Rockshox rear shock which combine to give a controlled and predictable feel through rock and root sections.
The MTR 8.6 features the new Microshift 1x10 drivetrain which has an 11-48T cassette giving plenty of range with precise shifts. The new MTRs are built on 29 inch wheels which give fantastic stability and smoothness. They come wearing a set of tubeless-ready Maxxis Minion tyres which give fantastic grip regardless of how wet and muddy the trails become.

New 29er platform
Sitting on 29-inch wheels for the first time, the Boardman MTR line-up have been designed as a range of trail-ready bikes which feel grounded and sturdy through British and Irish singletrack. With 140mm of fork travel and 145mm in the rear, the MTR 8.6 is ready to soak up rough terrain. The 66 degree head angle is a degree slacker than the outgoing model and reach has been increased across all sizes to make for a longer, more planted bike.

With Chris Boardman as Chairman of the company, Boardman have a wealth of experience to draw on and are always looking at the fine details when developing bikes. The new MTR platform has been designed around real-world trail riding, with a geometry and suspension set up honed through countless hours of testing. They’ve also worked to develop a range of saddles using advanced pressure mapping and real-world testing to make sure any saddle on a Boardman bike is going to suit the majority of people riding it.

Topeak Defender Mudguards will ensure you stay drier and cleaner for much longer when out on your rides. The Lazer Chiru MIPS Helmet both looks the part and has features such as MIPS to ensure great safety should you have to come to rely on the helmet. And to ensure you can dial both your front and suspension we recommend a Halfords Shock Pump. Side-Entry bottle cages work best with the MTR frame, we've tried and tested the Elite Prism Carbon Cage and we loved it!
