No, you do not need a license to ride an electric bike in the UK. Additionally, you are not required to register, tax, or insure an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC).
Yes, you can ride an electric bike if you are banned from driving. However, it must be an EAPC-compliant bike. Riding a non-compliant electric bike while disqualified is a serious offense which can incur serious penalties. To ensure compliance, always purchase your electric bike from a trusted retailer. An electric bike can be propelled up to 15.5mph without pedalling, provided it has been approved. The motor must have a continuous rated power output of no more than 250 watts and must not propel the bike beyond 15.5mph.
